Lego City Set 60239: Police Patrol Car Review

The Lego City set 60239: Police Patrol Car is one of the 50 Lego City sets released in 2019. It went on sale in Europe on the 27th December 2018 for 9.99€/ 9.99$. It contains 92 parts. This converts to 10.9 cents per piece. It's the first stand-alone city police patrol car since 2008. I think it's a much-needed upgrade and an essential set for a modern City display.

Box, Instructions, Out-of-the-box and building experience

The box art shows the built set and some details (including set number, title, the number of parts, age rating) on the front side and some play features on the backside. It is basically just a standard Lego box, nothing special about it.

After opening the box, you are left with 2 parts bags (one containing the larger bricks, the other one the small parts), a 6x12 white vehicle chassis (this part was introduced with this set and is the only set containing it) and the normal-sized instruction booklet as well as a sticker sheet for the police car.
The build process is easy, fast and straight forward. You also get quite a few spare parts.

Minifigures and accessories

This set includes only one Minifigure: a police officer. There is nothing special about him, he is wearing the standard, light blue officer shirt, dark blue pants, a dark blue cap and Ray-Bans.
Two identical traffic cones are the only included accessories with this set. They are made up of 2 parts: a small, orange, 1x1 nose cone and a dark grey parabolic plate.

I really like the shapes and the overall design of this nice little car. Yes, it doesn't even come near the level of detail of the vehicles featured in the Speed Champions series, but it seems inspired from those designs and it is above most cars you find in the City sets. The 6 stud width is a great step towards more detailed, closer to reality vehicles in the City series and I'm glad more and more vehicles are based on this design and not on the old 4 stud design.

While I do not recognize if any real-world car model was used for inspiration, the car is easily recognizable as a modern, powerful and fast police cruiser with aggressive, sloping curves. Add to this the subtle details on the front grille, the rear exhaust and the lightbar that is the rear window and you get this model, that just seems to fit together very well.

Overall

This set doesn't have much in terms of play value, our hero cop has no criminals to chase down and arrest. This set is really only about the cruiser. Kids will have fun smashing the traffic cones or combining this set with other City sets in a crazy police chase. Collectors may want to buy a few of these to modernize their police fleets.

The low price makes this set a compelling option for anyone looking to expand their City, it can even be bought in bulk and is a cool gift for anyone.
I really like this set and it has my recommendation.
